Makeup Review: Bloom Sheer Colour Cream

Thanks to Stephanie at Beauty Soiree I got the amazing opportunity to try out some really great products from Australian made brands including Bloom Cosmetics. As I have been meaning to try out a cream blush for quite a while, I was super excited to try out this Sheer Colour Cream as soon as a saw it!

Bloom Sheer Colour Cream in Coy
Being a little curious about the name (why don't they just market this product as a cream blush rather than Sheer Colour Cream?), I read the side of the box and found out that this product multitasks as a cream blush, lip color, and cream eyeshadow!Quite a bit of work for just one product, but when I go on vacation or to sleepovers, I like to keep the products I bring with me to a minimum and streamline my makeup routine and this product seems to fit the bill at the first look.

On cheeks this product really performs. Whether applied with fingers or a duo fibre brush (my preferred method) on skin or on top of liquid foundation this cream product blends seamlessly and looks natural. The color also leans a bit on the warm side of a peachy pink (yellow pink with peach mixed in would be the best description). However, when applied lips the color tends look a bit more peachy and has a tendancy to dry out my lips if a lip balm is not applied prior to this product. I also find that even when a primer is applied to the eye area with a coordinating powder atop this product, creasing is inevitable leaving this product best kept to the cheeks.

Left to Right: FaceOfAustralia Mineral Therapy Illuminator in
Angel Blush, Bloom Sheer Colour Cream in Coy, Bloom Liquid Eye Shadow
in Neptune, and FaceOfAustralia Lip Quench SPF30+ in Malibu Barbie and
Lychee Crush each swiped 2 times

Even though I was a bit let down that this product doesn't exactly multitask as well as I would have liked it to, the way it performs on the cheeks has blown me away! No extra time needed to blend and lasts all day without being set with a powder, but if you would like to set this with a powder blush I would recommend Essence Silky Touch Blush in Adorable.

The Stats:
 - Great Multitasker! (eyes, face, lips)
 - Glides on and blends easily with brushes or fingertips on the cheeks
 - No need to set with a powder on the cheeks
 - Lasts all day on the cheeks
 - Tends to dry out lips when used as a lipcolor
 - Even with a good primer and a coordinated powder it creases when used on the eyes
 - Cream Formula
 - Coy (a peachy pink shade that leans warm) provides a natural flush perfect for any look
 - $24.00 AUD (approx. $23.45 US)
 - Unfortunetly, Bloom Cosmetics are not available in stores in the USA, however shipping is available from the Bloom Cosmetics online store

Skincare Review: XOut Body Cleansing Bar

Remember a little while back when I did a review on the new XOut Wash-In Treatment? Well it has kind of definetly been a favorite of mine since then and when I found this lovely new product from the makers of XOut in my mail box I couldn't wait to try it out!

XOut Cleansing Body Bar 5.0 oz.

Starting out with the product I had high hopes that this product would be just as good as its' original face treatment and of course it didn't let me down! Although this cleansing body bar does have different ingredients, both active 1% Salicylic Acid and inactive ingredients compared to the 8.5% Benzoyl Peroxide and inactive ingredients in the Wash-In Treatment, it works just as amazingly well for me!

I don't have much of a problem with body acne, so when I do notice a few cropping up I bust out this cleansing bar to get the job done in just a few washes! I just use this in place of my normal soap for use on my back and chest area where body acne usually occurs for me. After working the bar into a lather in my hands I make sure to massage the product into my skin in a circular motion and then I rinse with warm water as usual and just this little switch every time I take my shower leaves me with clearer skin on my back and chest.

However, since everyone's skin is different results may vary, but I find that both this product and the XOut Wash-In Treatment to work very well for me while my sister who has tried these products a couple of times doesn't see the same dramatic results and finds that the product works slower to help heal her acne. Either way, I do believe that this product along with the XOut Wash-In Treatment is something worth trying, and for just $19.95 for a 30-day supply of the XOut Wash-In Treatment and this XOut Cleansing Body Bar it is sure to be less expensive than some of the other brands and dermatological treatments that you may have tried. Plus, XOut has a 60-day money-back guarantee, so if you don't find that these products work for you, just send them back (even if the bottles are empty!) and they will refund your original purchase price which I think is great because it shows that they care about their customers and whether or not consumers are happy with their products.

The Stats:
 - Works fast with visible results in just a few days* (*in my experience)
 - Easy to use! (just replace as your normal bar soap for back and chest)
 - Contains 1% Salicylic Acid (as opposed to the 8.5% Benzoyl Peroxide in the Wash-In Treatment)
 - Huge 5.0 oz bar (141 grams)
 - Unfortunetly, this bar is not sold on its own and must be purchased within the Basic or Deluxe kits available on the XOut website

Makeup Review: Maybelline Dream Nude Airfoam Foundation

Recently some new revolutionary products have been cropping up in drugstores, mousse and airfoam type foundation being one of them. So I hurried my little tail into the nearest CVS and picked up this interesting foundation.

Maybelline Dream Nude Airfoam in 110 Porcelain Ivory

As always, I couldn't wait to try out this foundation (just as I always am for any new foundation) and once I did, I was quite surprised by it! Not really knowing what to expect when I pressed down I was surprised to find that the foundation really was the same texture of hair mousse, but much less sticky.

what the foundation looks like after dispensing

Using just one press of the pump for no more than a second or two out comes a golf-ball sized amount of colored foam. But I quickly ran into a problem, what kind of brush do I use with this type of foundation? In today's world of foundations, the majority of use who are beauty inclined prefer to use brushes and when we face a product like this, it stumps us as to what kind of brush to use. So of course I turned the bottle around to see if they had a suggestion on how to apply and was greeted with a very detailed 4-step diagram to apply which was helpful, but at first I really did not want to use my hands to blend my foundation in as I just prefer brushes over anything else.

After trying the foundation using a normal foundation brush it looked streaky, a duo fiber brush just didn't pick up the product or distribute it right and even my beloved Flat Synthetic Bronzer Brush from Crown Brush just didn't seem to give me the airbrushed finish I craved. Finally I resorted to the suggestion on the bottle and applied using my hands. Needless to say the suggestion on the back of the bottle was the best way to apply it and receive the amazing airbrush finish I was craving, but I still don't like using my hands to apply foundation and would prefer the option to use a brush, but when the results are as great as they are, I am willing to get my hands a little dirty.

blending foundation

After all the mishaps and mayhem trying to figure out how to apply it best I found that when I applied with my hands I got a lightweight medium coverage that left my skin looking natural and almost airbrushed unlike many liquid foundations do. I also found that it left me with a semi-dewy complexion which is nice, but I prefer to have more matte look so I chose to set the foundation with Essence Mattifying Compact Powder in Translucent. However one downfall is that the foundation isn't very buildable and doesn't exactly allow for extra coverage for blemishes or dark circles. I also found that the foundation sometimes rubbed off fairly easily even when set with a powder, so I would not recommend this if you like to touch your face a lot.

Overall I think this foundation is very unique and quite good, especially if you don't need full coverage and like dewy finishes. However, with my oily skin I feel this foundation may be best for me during the winter months rather than the hot days of summer when I prefer a bit more coverage and a matte finish.

The Stats:
 - Ranges from porcelain to deep skintones
 - Unique mousse texture
 - Feels lightweight
 - Super easy to apply with the hands
 - Not so easy to achieve satisfying results using brushes
 - Caution: Keep away from the eyes!
 - Medium coverage
 - SPF 16 Sunscreen
 - Dewy Finish

FOTD: How Do You Do Blue?

I personally love to switch up my eyeshadow and one way I like to do that is to add a fun color into mix like blue! With that said, I don't want to go crazy overboard with it, but I still want it to be different and exciting. This is how I do blue.

Going easy on the eyes, I used Urban Decay's Eyeshadow in Virgin from lash line to browbone using a shader brush (such as the EcoTools Shader Brush) for a soft satiny neutral color that is easy to build off of. Next, I used a pencil brush (Sigma E-30 Pencil) dipped in LORAC Baked Eyeshadow in Insider and started applying from the outer corner to the crease. Once blended into the crease and outer corner at the desired level of color I finish off the look by blending harsh edges with a fluffy blending brush (like the Sigma E-40 Tapered Blending).  Then I finish by taking the color down to the outer lower eye rim and used a single coat of Urban Decay's Supercurl Curling Mascara and Urban Decay's Naked Eyeshadow to fill in my brows.

To contrast the all the blue going on in the eyes I went with a matte pink cheek using E.L.F. Powder Blush in Passion Pink applied using a stippling brush like the Sigma F-50 Duo Fibre. Then I lightly contoured using the bronzer from the E.L.F. Studio Contouring Duo.

To keep the lips a natural pink I used Benefit's Posietint topped with a clear gloss like Essence XXL Shine Gloss.

So tell me, how do you do blue?

Target Beauty Bag!

Finally my computer is fixed and I will start to get back to regular posting. But enough about my technological problems, let's see what is in the latest Target Beauty Bag!

Items included in the bag: Nivea Extended Moisture Daily Lotion, Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes, Neutrogena Visibly Bright Facial Cleanser, Pantene Color Hair Solutions Conditioner, L'Oreal Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer, and a booklet of coupons

Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes - Finally this brand has come to the United States and I have been looking forward to trying some of their products, these cleansing wipes being one of them. I was super excited to find this sample packet of 7 wipes (Regularly $4.99 for 25 Wipes) included in the Target beauty bag, especially because I sadly ended up not liking them. I feel like these wipes get my skin clean enough, but I would like to have felt a bit fresher after using them and I felt like the wipes were not as sturdy as my usual Yes To Cucumber Facial Wipes are.

Pantene Color Hair Solutions Color Preserve Shine Conditioner - I have tried many of the lines Pantene has to offer, but have never tried the color protect (around $1.00 for this 1.7 fl oz and $5.89 for  25.4 fl oz) since I have never had dyed hair until now (just the underside is 2 shades lighter than my natural color all over) so I was excited to see this included as well. I feel like it did a fine job at moisturizing my hair, but I don't feel it is anything to rave about and if you have fairly normal hair like mine that doesn't have too much of a moisture issue this time of year, you may not be too impressed either.

Neutrogena Visibly Bright Daily Facial Cleanser - I am currently loving my skincare routine, but a gentle brightening cleanser is nice to use every once in a while as well. I was quite skeptical about its claim to transform dull tired skin to visibly bright and refreshed with just a simple cleanse, but I tried it anyway, I mean what is there to lose? First thing I noticed is that the cleanser is actually gold in color and contains little tiny sparkles in it, but once I rinsed, there were no visible leftover sparkles on my skin which was good because I was a bit concerned that they may attach to my face and make me look like a disco ball! But when I dried my skin I actually think my skin looked a little bit brighter, not enough to make a huge impact, but I do think that this mini (0.5 fl oz; $6.99 for 6.7 fl oz) would be great when my skin is looking a little sallow.

Nivea Extended Moisture Daily Lotion - Honestly, I was a bit surprised to find this in the bag, I was expecting another hair product or makeup product, but it never occurred to me that body moisturizer is just as important as the products for your skin on your face in terms of keeping skin healthy and youthful looking.  Once I actually used it though, I figured out why they included it, it is amazing! This little bottle of moisturizer (1 fl oz; around $7.99 for 13.5 fl oz) quickly seeps into skin and keeps my skin feeling soft and smooth from dusk till dawn!

L'Oreal Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer -  I'm not going to lie, I sort-of wished they would have actually of given a real sample size of this instead of just a single-sample-size that you often find in magazines ($10.99 for 0.68 fl oz), but even after just one use, I really like it! I was a bit scared at first because I do have combo oily skin and looking "luminous" often coincides with looking "oily" for me, but not with this! This primer actually makes a big difference alone and does tend to make skin look shiny, but once foundation is applied (which applies quiet smoothly and evenly over this primer) skin just looks naturally radiant and flawless with a lit-from-within glow! Plus, using a little additional primer on top of the cheekbones over foundation gives a naturally illuminated effect.

This being the first Target Beauty bag I have gotten my hands on I am quite happy with the contents and I love the bag itself as it is perfect for using as a on-the-go makeup bag!

Were you able to snag a bag? What do you think of these products?

April Favorites!

Finally we are one month closer to lazy days spent out in the sun during the summer! But until those glorious days come about I have my April Favorites.

Makeup
NYC Smooth Skin Pressed Bronzer in Sunny
Finally the sun has come out from hibernation and that means it is time to start using a little bronzer to encourage that sun-lit glow. Plus, contouring cheekbones and jawbones exaggerates facial features and helps give a more definite face shape whether my hair is up in a ponytail or swept into a low fishtail braid.

Almay Pure Blends Foundation in 120 Ivory
While out shopping at Ulta one day I decided to go next door to Five Below to check out their beauty bargains and found this! This foundation from Almay is now being discontinued, so I found it super cheap at just $4.00 compared to the $11.00 that my local grocery stores were pricing it at. However, they only had two shades in stock, 120 and 140 so of course I chose the lighter of the two and went on my merry way to the check-out! When I got home I was so surprised that this foundation actually turned out to be one of my favorites! It provides a good light to medium coverage and produces a satin finish while still feeling creamy and lightweight on the face. This month I have practically worn it every single day because it is just that good and I plan on going back to my local Five Below to buy another before they disappear forever! (If you have any other questions, feel free to ask in the comments as I have not done a review on this product due to the fact that it is being discontinued.)

Skincare
Left to Right: c.Booth Walnut Shell Body Scrub & Cleanser, XOut Wash-In
 Treatment, and Clearasil PerfectaWash
Thanks to my new skin care routine, my skin is clearer than ever and I can't wait for this summer to get the opportunity to wear more lightweight foundations than my usual since I have less to cover up! If you haven't tried these products yet and you have oily/combo acne-prone skin, please just for me, go and get them! These products have been the best for my skin in combination together, but remember that everybody's skin is different and make sure that the products in your own skin care routine cater to your specific needs.

Nails

I have really been loving getting back to fun brights on my nails this spring and summer after a long winter of dark polishes. I love all of these fun and funky colors for my tips and toes, so to find the names of each of these polishes, look here.
