Makeup Review: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

Long behold one of the most famous cult-favorites for the makeup artists, beauty junkies and beauty beginners alike. I think we can all agree that a good eyeshadow primer is at the top of all of our wishlists, especially in the new year, but it this raved and faved primer worth the splurge? I definitely think so!

Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion Professional Size

After finally getting a Sephora in my local mall a few years back I went in not sure what to buy or what to try. It was definitely a very overwhelming experience considering I had only heard stories of the wonders that lived inside of this magical place. I ended up blowing a little over $30.00 on a Benefit Her Glossiness V.I.P. Lipgloss (which was discontinued shortly after), Too Faced Lash Injection mini and a pack of Boscia Green Tea Blotting Linens. But while I was there I spotted a few other things, this primer being one of them. I'm not sure if it was just the name primer potion that drew me in or the unique, genie-in-a-bottle type packaging (vintage/discontinued packaging), either way I had no idea what an eye primer exactly was so i didn't feel the need to pick it up. Later on I decided to search up some reviews and general information on what eyeshadow primers were and once I finally understood I just knew I had to have it! Two bottles of UDPP in Sin (a shimmery champagne version that recently came out around the time I discovered it) later, I finally started to confess my love for it.

Present day I am a fully-obsessed Urban Decay lover for life, what started with this simple primer developed into a full on love affair with their eyeshadows and liner too which always perform their best when used in combination with this primer. Before I ever used a primer, my eyeshadow would almost always crease and fade throughout the day and I just thought I couldn't do anything about it, until that moment I tried out this classic cult-fave.

This primer comes out a fleshy peach shade, but when applied to lids and blended in with a finger there is no noticeable color so there's no need to ever have to choose a shade unless you prefer one of the other three colors in the line for an added hint of shimmer under your shadows or to mask color discolorations on the lid. Plus, you only need a teeny tiny amount of product for both lids so your investment goes a bit farther with this primer than some others. This primer also tends to stack up better to others on my oily eyelids! My eyeshadow stays put from the time I apply it to the time I wanna take it off which sometimes can be 16+ hours later. I will admit that when it is a very hot, humid day I will still experience a small amount of creasing, but even then it is nothing compared to when I don't use this before applying my eye makeup.

Plus, I find that this new squeeze tube packaging makes dispensing this product much easier and faster while getting more product out unlike the older packaging that often had to be cut open with a serrated knife to get all of the product out, which surprisingly there was always a ton left in the curvatures of the bottle when I thought it was completely empty! I also find that this squeeze tube makes dispensing more sanitary than the wand-and-bottle method which would result in having to sanitize the wand thus resulting in the loss of more product. Now that all of their primers come in squeeze tubes it was a natural step to create a bigger size for professionals and beauty junkies that just couldn't live without their UDPP, so they created a bigger tube ($30.00) with 0.85 oz of product in it which equates to 150% more than the regular sized tubes ($19.00) with a mark up of only $11.00. This is one sweet deal, but sadly these professional sized tubes won't last long, but the product in them sure will!

The Stats:
 - Keeps eyeshadow and liner locked in place all day and all night
 - Makes eyeshadows appear more vibrant and true-to-color
 - Prevents fading, creasing, smudging and smearing
 - Available in 4 colors (Original, Greed, Sin and Eden)
 - Regular sized bottle(0.37 oz) retails $19.00
 - Professional sized bottle pictured above (0.85 oz) retails $30.00
 - Can be worn under any cream, liquid or powder eyeshadows and liners
 - Lasts a Lifetime! (only a minuet amount in needed)
 - New squeeze bottle means easier, faster and more sanitary dispensing

Makeup Review: Essence Gel Eyeliner

Before my recent Ulta Haul I had started hearing a lot about Essence cosmetics. This company is huge in Europe and really combines two things: Low Prices and Great Quality. After reading reviews and hearing so much talk, I decided to buy one of their most popular, highly-rated products and decided that if it wasn't good quality for the price, then I'll just stick my usual drugstore brands. Obviously, it went well and resulted in my Ulta haul, but I thought I would give you all the details on this A+ product as well.

Essence Gel Eyeliner in Midnight In Paris
Upon first opening the container I just thought it would be just like any other eyeliner I had used in a pot form, then I dipped my brush in it. That's when it hit me, this is a gel eyeliner, not a cream eyeliner and therefore is much softer and there is definitely no need to go digging around in this pot to get some on a brush, a gentle swipe across the surface is sufficient.

After that whole mind-boggling experience, I swatched away with it because really, what else is a girl to do when she just took out a chunk of eyeliner on accident? I noticed right away the intense pigment that this eyeliner holds, who knew that a drugstore product as little as $3.49 can contain far more pigment than others that I have easily spent $20.00 or more on? I also noted the plush, creamy feeling of the eyeliner that I'm pretty sure is the most easily transferrable (from the brush to skin) eyeliner ever! It glided onto my skin so easily without tugging when swatched that I couldn't even imagine how well it would do when I actually applied it to my lashline.

Excuse the random sparkle and the messy swatching!

After luxuriating in the creamy formula it was time to really put this liner to the test and see if it can truely stand up to my oily eyelids. After testing it out and using it with and without primer and eyeshadow on the lids I finally settled my thoughts: this is the most amazing thing ever! Whether worn with primer and eyeshadow or just alone, this liner doesn't transfer, smear, smudge, or fade throughout the day and looks exactly like when you applied it 12 hours later. As far as using this on the waterline goes, it holds up well, but as with any liner whether cream, gel, powder, or pencil it starts to smudge at the corner of my eyes and move around a bit after three to four hours which is normal for me, even with Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliners. But I find that I would rather use this on my upper lashline anyways, so that aspect isn't much of a downfall to me, but for girlies looking for a gel liner for the waterline may want to keep in mind that touchups may be needed. However, for the super low price of just $3.50, I think this liner is definitely worth a try especially for those wondering if investing in a gel eyeliner formula is right for them or not.

The Stats:
 - Affordable Price at Just $3.49
 - Currently Comes in Three Colors (Midnight In Paris, Berlin Rocks & London Baby)
 - Creamy Gel Formula
 - Easy Application
 - Intense Pigment
 - Long-Lasting and Waterproof

FOTD: How To Love Woodstock and Wear it Too!

Thanks to Urban Decay, Perversion and Woodstock are now available in full-sizes with their Spring Collection! We just saw Perversion and Woodstock make an appearance in the Urban Decay 24/7  Travel Sized Electric Eyeliner Set of 5 and now they are making their main appearance! Since Woodstock is such an unusually punchy  pink color, most of the conservatives in us just say it isn't very logical to buy a pink liner and you will never use it, while the makeup obsessive geeks in us just screams Gotta Have It! To come to terms with both of our conservative sides and our wild sides I have a simple face of the day that proves you really can rock a shimmery pink eyeliner everyday!

I started off by using Urban Decay Primer Potion to prime the eye area. Then I swept Urban Decay's Sin Eyeshadow all over the lid up to the browbone. For an extra highlight I used Zephyr from the Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV underneath the brow and in the inner-corners to keep this look fresh and bright. After the shadow was complete, I used the Essence Eyebrow Designer in 03 Light Brown to fill in my brows and finally went in with my Urban Decay 24/7 Woodstock Eyeliner and drew a medium-thin line across my upper lashline extending about 3/4 of the way in. To top it off I used Urban Decay's Supercurl Curling Mascara and Essence Long Lasting Eye Pencil in 10 Almost Famous along my waterline.

To echo the pink used on my eyes, I decided to use Essence Silky Touch Blush in 10 Adorable on my cheeks.

Going along with everything pink I choose to do a pink lip using Essence Lipliner in 07 Cute Pink to line and fill in my lips with Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss in 01 Pure Chic on top to give a glossy finish.

(Also used in this Face Of The Day: Rimmel Fix & Perfect Primer, Hard Candy Just Face It Foundation in Fair and Essence Mattifying Compact Powder in 07 Translucent)

Makeup Review: Urban Decay 24/7 Electric Eyeliner Set

As a girl who is always on the look-out to find an easy way to switch up my daily look without having to hassle with multiple shadows and spending a large chunk of time on it, I can appreciate an eyeliner that I can depend on for an easy pop of color anytime.

Urban Decay 24/7 Travel Size Set of 5 in Electric

These travel-sized liners are almost exactly what I was looking for! This set of 5 houses everything from your daily go-to matte black liner in Perversion to an outrageous shimmering pink in Woodstock to let yourself create any look desired from everyday to anything but the usual (Lookout for Perversion and Woodstock in full-sizes this Spring!). The three others in the set, Ransom, a bright iridescent purple, Radium, a vibrant shimmering blue, and Junkie, a sparkly green, are just as wearable and easy to work with to amp up any look from day to night or just everyday.

Left to Right: Perversion, Ransom, Woodstock,
Radium, and Junkie

This array of liners couldn't have been better, these are the total package! Any girl-on-the-go will love these especially because of their one-swipe-and-you're-done! pigment that makes a serious impact without making it look like a kindergartner did your makeup! These pencils have a place in any makeup enthusiasts collection or a beginners makeup bag due to their intense pigment and easy, creamy 24/7 glide-on formula.

Left to Right: Perversion, Ransom, Woodstock, Radium,
and Junkie

I have had a small trial-and-error phase with these pencils in the past when a Sephora Rep pointed me in the direction of a liner that would actually stay on throughout the day. Let's just say I wasn't too happy having to spend $18.00 on an eyeliner that only stayed on the same amount of time as my $1.00 e.l.f pencil did. Since then I have learned a few tricks with these pencils to make them last a bit longer, but I find that re-application and touch-ups are still periodically needed if I'm planning on wearing them all day. If you have had the same issue in the past, don't let that deter you from trying out this great set because I have a couple tips and tricks to help them stay-put!

One of my tricks with these liners is to apply a primer to the upper lid if I'm applying them to my lashline or a primer right below my lower lashline if I am using them on my waterline to keep them from transferring or bleeding. If I am using them on my waterline I also like to use a tissue or q-tip to wipe off my waterline and then apply the liner to help them better adhere to the skin. In addition to this, I also like to set the liner with a coordinating powder eyeshadow lightly tapped on top of the liner with an eyeliner brush to ensure that the eyeliner will stay put.

This set is a great value for $32.00 for 5 travel-sized liners (that are each 0.03 US oz compared to a single liner that is $18.00 for 0.04 US oz) and is definitely worth trying. Whether you are looking for fast and easy color to amp up your everyday looks like I am or a beginner to an eyeliner junkie you will find everything you both need and want right here in a single set!

The Stats:
 - Great Quality
 - Convenient Travel Size
 - Each liner is 0.03 US oz (compared to a full-sized at 0.04 US oz)
 - Retails for $32.00
 - Rich color in a single pass along the waterline or lashline
 - Lasts about 3-4 hours before reapplication or retouches
 - Waterproof Formula
 - Great to use as a 'pop of color' in any eye-look

Skincare Review: Clearasil PefectaWash

A little after the holidays I was sent a mysterious box in the mail and thought maybe it was a late gift from someone, so I quickly broke into the box to reveal... The Clearasil PefectaWash? I was stunned to say the least! I found a letter beneath the package explaining to me that I had been chosen to receive their Starter Kit for my own personal use and review from their Facebook contest. I was shocked! I have literally never won anything in my life and had completely forgotten that I entered! After all of the initial shock, it was time to get down to business: testing time!

Clearasil PerfectaWash Starter Kit

I quickly got to work opening up the package and sliding out the two refills, one in Superfruit Splash and the other in Soothing Plant Extracts, that each have 100 perfect doses in them adding up to a three month supply (when used two times a day)! But the creme de la creme came next and when I saw the dispenser I almost died! It looks and feels like something you would see in a swanky hotel or restaurant to dispense soap, but in this case the soap is a powerful acne-fighting cleanser.

Once I loaded the dispenser with the Soothing Plant Extracts Cleanser and flipped the switch in the back I was ready to go! I put my hand under to activate the dispenser and was immediately concerned at the amount that came out. The dispenser gave me about a nickel to a quarter sized amount of product and all I kept thinking was, "This is it?" and debated whether I should activate the dispenser again. I decided to just use what I already had in my hand and see if it really was the perfect dose.

As it turns out: it is! It provides just enough product for your entire face without having to deal with the messy pumps and bottles that always dispense too much product. Once it is massaged onto the face it produces little to no foam, so foam lovers may need some time to adjust themselves to this formula. After rinsing my skin feels fresh and clean, but also a little bit dry which I more so blame on the weather because my skin is overall a bit dryer this time of year. So I make sure to use a moisturizer after cleansing.

Besides just feeling refreshed, my combination, acne-prone skin sees fairly good results in the acne department. I see many of my blemishes reduce in size and redness overnight, but nothing super drastic. Overall this cleanser on its own isn't enough to keep me clear and I think a Clearasil spot-treatment or other acne-fighter from their line in addition to this will give better results. As for now though, I think I found the perfect combination for my skin using my old cleanser once a week and this the rest of the days and using an exfoliator in addition to this cleanser once a week, so a skincare routine may be in the works soon because it even confused me just writing it!

I really like this cleanser and I appreciate that Clearasil is taking a new path in skincare and created a dispenser that always dispenses the perfect dose, but when it comes down to it this just isn't enough for my skin and I need a little extra push from some other products get my skin to where I would like it to be.

The Stats:
 - Starter Kit Retails $20.00
 - Comes with both dispenser and two refills (plus pre-installed batteries!)
 - Refills are available in Soothing Plant Extracts and Superfruit Splash
 - Each refill has 100 perfect doses
 - The cleansers may be a bit drying this time of year
 - Easy To Use!
 - Sanitary Dispenser
 - Looks Great in Any Bathroom

Makeup Review: EOS Lip Sphere

With the rough and tough winter weather taking its' toll on my lippies, they were in need of some serious lip-loving rehab so I turned to a trusty favorite of many beauty gurus and bloggers, the EOS Lip Sphere. I know I'm a little late, but I think it's never really too-late to jump on the bandwagon and finally experience what is being hyped up in the beauty community. Especially when it's as cute as this little sphere of lip balm is!

EOS Lip Sphere in Sweet Mint

Living in the North-Eastern United States has its highs and lows, one of lows being the tremendous amount of snow and cold wind we get up here. However, this does mean something good for all of you, you get to read about my trials and tribulations with lip balms during these cold months and if they can withstand the weather here, you are in for a treat.

Consider this one a small treat. This slippery-smooth balm (yes I did just slather some on to test this theory!) leaves behind a clear gluten-free, paraben-free, petrolatum-free and phthalate-free moisturizing layer to get lips back into shape in no time without the added chemicals. Plus, this balm is 95% organic as certified by the USDA. This easy-to-apply moisturizing balm also contains good-for-your-lips ingredients like Vitamin E, Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil to keep them healthy and looking their best.

Speaking of looking good, these handy little spheres are certainly an eye-catcher. On Christmas day my cousin's girlfriend even caught me slathering some balm on after dinner and immediately asked what it was due to the unusual shape. Plus, I find these super easy to find in any blackhole purse, no matter how large or over-stuffed it is! However, there is one slight drawback to the shape, it isn't exactly pocket-friendly. The sphere makes a quite large bump in any pants pocket, so if you are looking for something to keep in your pocket right beside your phone, keep this one at home like I do.

I have to say, from all the raving around the beauty community I was expecting something totally revolutionary, but what I found is that it's just an a pretty good lip balm in a unique shape, which is somewhat revolutionary, but not completely what I was hoping for. This balm is very moisturizing and with its natural ingredients it gets an A+ from me, but at the end of the day, it is just a clear, scented balm.

The Stats:
 - Very Moisturizing
 - Leaves Behind Smooth, Supple Lips
 - Easy to Apply
 - Purse Friendly, Not Pocket Friendly
 - Comes In Six Scents/Flavors
 - Sweet Mint flavor leaves behind a slight tingly sensation
 - 95% Organic, 100% Natural. Paraben and Petrolatum Free
 - Contains Vitamin E, Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil
 - Retails around $2.50 - $3.50

Makeup Review: LORAC Blush

In my opinion, every girl needs a good, go-to pigmented blush that they can sweep on in seconds and not have to worry about disappearing, fading or traveling around the face. It's fair to say that I expect a lot from blushes, but especially when they retail for $20.00 each like this LORAC Blush in Rendevous.

This blush certainly didn't let me down! This blush has a lot to offer and any blush enthusiast would agree! I just recently started trying to grow my blush collection and thought that such a credible brand would be great to start out with when trying to get into high-end blushes.

This gorgeous, smooth, richly pigmented blush is definitely one of the best blushes I have tried so far. LORAC packed this blush with plenty of pigment to spare and a smooth formula so applying this blush is a breeze! Just tap a regular blush brush into the pan and bounce, tap or swirl onto the cheeks for an instant flush! Plus, the slight silver shimmer in it gives a  multidimensional effect to the cheeks without the shimmery disco-ball look that cheaper blushes tend to do. And this particular shade seems to mimic the same color as the infamous NARS Orgasm blush does. This may not be an exact match and the shimmer in it is silver instead of gold, but in my opinion it comes quite close as a possible dupe. Therefore, I think this would look great on just about any skin tone whether it is ivory or deep caramel colored this blush is sure to stand-out on anyone's cheeks.

The Stats:
 - Super Pigmented
 - Slight Shimmer (no disco-ball effect)
 - $20.00 For A Full Sized Blush (0.11 oz.)
 - Average Packaging (nothing as good at the baked shadows, but not half as bad as the regular eyeshadows)
 - Smooth, Non-Powdery Formula
 - Great color for all skin tones
 - Great Color Pay-Off
 - No Disappearing Acts or Fading

Makeup Review: LORAC Baked Matte Satin Eyeshadow

Considering my current obsession with regular LORAC Eyeshadow Singles I decided to try one of their baked eyeshadows to see how they compare and seeing as I have neutral shadows up the ying-yang due to the singles and the Urban Decay Naked Palette I decided to go a little out of my comfort zone with a colorful shade.

LORAC Baked Matte Satin Eyeshadow in Insider

One of the things I am most grateful for is that the packaging on this product seems much more up-to-par with it's price unlike the regular shadow singles that seem quite flimsy. Plus, the classy, luxurious feeling I get from this makes me want to use it more often and even sometimes just marvel at the simple, yet classiness of it. I also adore the dome shape found on many baked products because it reminds me of Italy where they hand-craft everything from cosmetics to shoes to pizza!

But this baked eyeshadow has much more to offer than just pretty packaging. This shadow applies almost effortlessly, smoothing onto the lid and easily blending up into the crease and outer-corner without having to work at it. Plus, the color can be easily built up by adding another layer or two for intense pigment and color sure to wow a crowd. Needless to say, this is my kind of shadow!

Sad to say, this formula is being discontinued, so try hunting around for it in your local Sephora or Ulta before it completely disappears forever! Look no further, you won't find a better baked shadow!

The Stats:
 - Silky-Smooth Formula
 - Easily Blendable
 - Has the ability to layer and build intensity
 - Highly Pigmented
 - Much sturdier packaging than the regular eyeshadow singles
 - Great Size! 0.08 oz.
 - These eyeshadows are somewhere between a matte and a satin finish
 - This formula is unfortunately being discontinued and was retailed around $22.00

Ulta Haulage!

Hey everyone! Yesterday I decided to do a little bit of shopping at my local Ulta and thought I would try out a few new products.... well that was until I saw the prices on Essence items and went totally crazy since I have been seeing a lot about them recently and ended up checking out with 12 items under a total of $25.00 including tax with the $3.50 off any $10 purchase coupon from the catalogue and Rimmel London was having a buy one get one 50% off sale! Major score! Kelsey: 1-Ulta: 0

From Left to Right: Essence Pencil Sharpener, Essence Stay With Me Lip Gloss in Candy Bar, Essence XXXL Shine Lip Gloss in 01 Pure Chic, Essence Colour & Go Nail Polish in Sweet As Candy, Colour & Go Nail Polish in Walk of Fame, Essence Long Lasting Eyeliner in Almost Famous, Essence Eyebrow Designer in 03 Light Brown, Essence Lipliner in 07 Cute Pink, Essence Silky Touch Blush in 10 Adorable, Essence Mattifying Compact Powder in 07 Translucent, Rimmel Clean Finish Foundation in 120 Ivory and Rimmel Fix & Perfect Primer

So far I'm quite happy with my purchases though I haven't tried out all of the products yet, so that may change, but really when my total pretty much equals out to $2.00 per product you can't really say this was a bad shopping trip even if the products aren't as good as I am hoping. Don't worry, I'll check back later and make sure to fill you in on all the little details of these products!

Hair Product Review: BigSexyHair Spray & Play Harder

If you have been following me for a while, you might remember what I said back in October about how I went a lil product happy at the Sexy Hair booth at the 2011 Beauty Classics and bought some hair products that yes, were a great deal, but definitely not needed, but really, who needs a reason to buy extremely marked down hair products? I certainly don't! This is the first of the products that I bought a tried out and am super happy to say, love to death!

Big Sexy Hair Spray &Play Harder
Firm Volumizing Hairspray

Since I am not much of a product kind of girl, buying a hairspray was sort-of random for me and I was not really sure what I would be using it for, but after reading the words "Firm Volumizing Hairspray" on the front of the bottle it got me thinking that it would be great for creating a "bump" effect at the crown, no backcombing needed! I went to work straight away, combing my hair back at the crown and using a rattail comb to make a 1/2 inch parting perpendicular to a center part. After combing the hair up and holding straight up from the head, I sprayed short bursts of the hairspray right at the roots of the section and laid the hair straight down over my face. After repeating the process 3 or 4 more times and allowing the hairspray to stiffen, I flipped the hair backwards and combed over the sections lightly to combine them to make the bumb appear more natural.

The results I got were amazing! A bump that lasted all day, stayed in place and looked just right without any backcombing or bump-its needed! However, My hair did feel a bit crunchy and stiff when I went to put my fingers through my hair, so just a side-note: If you like to touch your hair a lot, this is not for you. However, If you want super strong hold for everyday and even extreme styles (like mohawks), this would be great since it doesn't weigh down the hair. However, be aware of the rather large price tag attached to it (about $18.00 to $20.00) because when it comes time to replenish your stock, your wallet may be left crying on the side of the road compared to other popular drugstore brands that tend to be easier on the wallet. So make sure to stock up on this great hairspray when it is on sale!

The Stats:
 - Super strong hold
 - Does tend to feel a bit crunchy
 - Does not weigh down hair
 - Typical light fruity hairspray scent
 - Super volumizing when sprayed at the root
 - Leaves a shiny finish to hair
 - Around $18.00 for a 10.6 fl.oz. aerosol can
 - Sleek Packaging

Bath & Body Review: Softsoap Coconut Scrub Bar

I, for one, am not a huge fan of bar soaps, so when I found a package of this Coconut Scrub Bar Soap in my Influenster VoxBox, I was a little bit nervous as to how this product would work out for me.

I also was not just worried about the performance and how is stacks up to my shower gels, I was worried about the scent. I am someone who absolutely hates the look, taste and smell of anything coconut, but this bar of soap pleasantly surprised me! Instead of smelling like straight-up coconut like I though it would, it actually smells much more floral to me. I can still smell the coconut in it, but it doesn't bother me half as much as I thought it would.

Once I finally got this bar into the shower to test-drive it I was quiet surprised again! The bar has a unique curved shape for an easy grip while still producing a low-foam that feels super rich on the skin in the shower. Plus, the coconut extracts actually do exfoliate when the bar is pressed directly against the skin, it wasn't the wimpy little beads that disintegrate when they hit water that I was expecting. However, when I started rinsing the soap off I had a slight issue. It felt like through all that massaging in of the soap and gentle exfoliation the soap seemed to just sink into my pores and not go away! It just felt like a sticky residue on my arms that I had to rub over a zillion times with more water to get off. With that being the only con to this soap, I think I would be willing to over-look it if I had the pomegranate scent since you get 2-3.9 oz. bars for just around $4.00. Plus, Going Green is easy when they use 100% recycled paperboard to package their products.

The Stats:
 - Retails around $4.00
 - Comes in a two pack
 - Each bar is 3.9 oz.
 - This scent smells much more floral than straight-up coconut (in my opinion!)
 - Comes in two other scents, pomegranate and honeysuckle
 - Comforting lather with a small amount of suds produced
 - Gently exfoliates when pressed directly against the skin
 - Contains coconut extracts as well as jojoba and cotton seed oils
 - Unique curved shape for easier grip
 - Leaves behind a very slight residue
 - Carton is made of 100% recycled paperboard
