Fall Beauty Trends

Hey Everyone! The first day of fall has finally past and I just can't wait to start mixing it up and wear all the new trends in beauty like deeper than night polishes and metallic finishes. Without further adue, here is the latest on all things fall-inspired.

~Beauty~

The Trend: Dark as night nails

Sephora by O.P.I Metro
Chic
O.P.I Siberian Nights
I just love super deep, dark colors for the fall time and without fail every year, this trend comes back full-force, which is definitely a good thing for my nail obsession!

The Trend: Metallic Lids

I for one, just love anything super sparkly and shiny, so naturally, I gravitate to this trend like a mosquito to a lamp. Plus, this trend looks great on dark, dashing divas and flirtatious fair ladies alike.

The Trend: Daringly Bold Brows

Bushy browed girls rejoice! No more over tweezing and drawing in barely there brows because this fall, shapely bold brows are making headlines on runways, in magazines and on real women which means no more painful plucking or spending a small fortune for a professional waxing, time to them go au-natural!

Lipstick or Lipgloss?

The all important question, that yes, can be trivial in relation to the rest of your seriously complicated makeup routine, but can make a big impact on the overall look and feel of your makeup.

Personally, I find myself reaching for a gloss more often than a lipstick because I like the sheer, shininess of a gloss compared to the more-often-than-not semi-matte, full-on color of a lipstick. Which one is your favorite?

Which one do you find yourself reaching for more often,
Lipstick or Lipgloss?
Or maybe even a lip balm or stain?

Update!

Hey everyone! Sorry for being a little very MIA lately. As you all know, school is quite hard to keep up with when I am blogging, so please forgive some of the rather random, inconsistent posts. On top of my school work, my weekends are also fairly busy since I am a volunteer actor at a local charity haunted house, so between trying to get my homework done, mastering a new updo in cosmetology and acting on weekends, I don't have as much time to dedicate towards my blogging. However, I promise I will start getting my posts out as frequently as I am able to.

So, how has you week been so far?
I am just glad that it is finally Wednesday! Just 2 more days until the weekend!

NOTD: O.P.I Siberian Nights

Hey everyone! I have been on a nail kick lately as you can see, 2 nail posts in a week, new record!

O.P.I Siberian Nights
(please excuse the slight tip
wear and un-manicured nails)

Fall is coming back full force around where I live now and I prefer the darker colors for the chilly fall season (hence the dark grey in my last NOTD!). Last year around the fall time I started seeing a lot of people wearing dark, blackened shades of jade, amethyst, and sapphire. Which kind of always intrigued me because the polishes almost always looked black from far away, but if you looked up close you can see a hint of color, but I always thought, "if it looks black from far away, why not just wear a black polish?". Well now I understand it a little better after trying out this polish, it's sort of like a secret that only you know its not black, but everyone else thinks it is. Well.... at least that is what I think. Nevertheless, this is definitely a new staple color in my fall nail wardrobe!

Wow, 2 nail posts in one week!
What is your opinion on the almost black, but actually not
polish trend?

Bath & Body Review: C. Booth Walnut Shell Scrub

Lately I have been having a small BIG issue with dry skin on my arms, specifically my elbows, so on a recent quest to the drugstore to find something that might possibly help slough off all that dry, dead, bumpy skin I came across quite a few products from the C. Booth line which I haven't heard all too much about, but I felt up to test drive a new brand after being on a new brand buying spree lately which I can now say has helped me find some great new products and brands to try out (including this one)!

C. Booth Walnut Shell Body Scrub
& Cleanser

After coming home and pretty much immediately stepping into the shower and squeezing out a grape sized dollop of this body scrub and cleanser, I noticed the nutty, warm vanilla fragrance waft up to my nose, which at first wasn't exactly my favorite since I prefer much more fresh and fruity scents. However, I have come to actually really enjoy the scent of it in the shower as it actually relaxes me when I use this before bed-time. All scent issues aside, I noticed the texture of it is sort-of somewhere between a gel and cream base that is actually really easy to rub into the skin and disperse the small to medium sized granules evenly.

But lets get down to the nitty gritty (see what I did there? nitty gritty and its a scrub?). Does it work? Well, for my bumpy, dry skin on my elbows it took about 3 or 4 washes for this scrub and my usual moisturizer to get it all off without drying me out or rubbing me raw. Huge success if you ask me! I just love how this scrub is able to balance out scrubbing power with gentleness unlike some others I have tried (St. Ives Apricot Scrub, I am looking at you). In fact, this scrub is so gentle that you can use if everyday if you want to! I also find that this scrub can be used almost anywhere and everywhere on your body, on dry, cracked heels, knees, legs, chest and shoulders, and I have even tried this out on my face after mixing it with a little bit of cream cleanser, which left me with fresh, glowing skin after my shower.

Besides the great results, this scrub and cleanser is also a great value at just around $6.00 for a huge 16 ounce bottle with an easy flip top cap to dispense the scrub. Plus, the bottle will last you a lifetime! I have probably used it a good 15 to 20 times, each a large grape sized amount and have only used about a fourth of the bottle up. In addition to all the great attributes of this product, it is not animal tested which means two paws up from our furry friends.

The Stats:
 - Warm, Nutty Smell
 - Quality Small to Medium Sized Granuales
 - Not Tested on Animals
 - Contains quality ingredients like pumice and walnut shell powder to exfoliate and Aloe to gently soothe
 - Generous 16 (US Fluid) Ounces for under $6.00 (US Dollars)
 - Easy Flip-Top Cap
 - Doesn't leave your shower or bath tub sticky or slippery like salt and sugar scrubs
 - Great to use on all parts of the body (and even on the face if you are careful!)
 - Gentle while still effective

NOTD: Sephora by O.P.I Metro Chic

Hey everyone, hope your friday is going fantastic! I am sorry for my posts being a little scattered lately, cosmetology and regular school work are both hard to keep up with and I just barely have time to write as much as I would like, so please forgive me for the past few weeks and the next few, it may take me a while to learn how to balance out my time writing and doing school work. Whew, long-ish intro there! Lets just get on to the pretty nails, shall we?

Sephora by O.P.I Metro Chic with Sephora
by O.P.I Blasted Black on ring finger
(much more grey than brownish as shown
in the photo above)

I have been getting into the fall mood lately (after denying the fall would ever come, as I would rather have the sun out all year round!) and just fell compelled to drench my nails in this grey polish with purple and brown undertones. As well, I have been meaning to try out my Sephora by O.P.I Blasted Black for quite a while (I got the Sephora by O.P.I one instead of the regular O.P.I Shatter because I have every color of Shatter, but could never find anywhere that had the black shatter in stock) so I decided, what better time than now?!

I have to say, I have really been liking this color and Blasted combo. It is perfect for fall, and the color palette is fairly neautral, just grey and black, so it can be worn it with almost anything!

What have you been wearing on your nails lately?
During the fall, do you prefer dark colors? Pale colors? or Brights?

Makeup Review: Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Foundation

I absolutely love foundation! With that said, I like to try a variety of foundations, but I can be very picky about them and if I don't like it, it will be sent to live the rest of its life in the back of a cold, lonely, dark drawer. However, that is not the case with this natural looking foundation.

Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting
Foundation in Light 0

As someone who's skin needs fluctuates on a daily basis I need a foundation that is buildable enough to provide medium coverage when I need it and sheer to light coverage when I don't, all while looking natural on the skin. It can be a very tall order to fill, but this foundation does it with ease.

I find that most medium coverage foundations just can't stand up to my skin needs, but I find this does unlike many others. It goes on smoothly and seamlessly blends with my skin, even though the foundation is off a shade or two when I picked up the lightest color (Light 0). With that said, I feel this collection of shades is more favorable towards those with medium to dark complexions (or anyone that isn't considered fair). However, thanks to its awesome blending abilities I am still able to wear this foundation without looking like my face was stuck inside a tanning bed for an hour!

Another great thing about this foundation is that it leaves me with a natural finish, not too matte so that I look completely flat and not too dewy and shiny that I look like a disco ball, just perfect. However, I do have to say that it doesn't hold up to oil as much as I would like it to. With that said, I don't think this would be a good foundation for those of you with oily skin unless you use a mattifying primer and powder overtop. On the other hand, this seems to be a good foundation for those with normal to dry skin types because it doesn't cling to any dry or rough patches on the skin, leaving you with a flawless finish.

But there is one small problem with this foundation, I recently heard they are discontinuing it! Which is definitely  not ideal, especially since I adore the finish, but if you check allcosmeticswholesale.com they have a few select colors still in stock, so grab them if you can!

The Stats:
 - Easy to work with
 - Natural Finish
 - Now being discontinued
 - No truly pale shades for those who are very fair
 - Very Blendable
 - Retails around $9.00
 - SPF 18

Have any of you tried this product or its powder companion?

The Hello Beautiful Blogger Award!

Hey everyone! Recently, a lovely blogger by the name of Jessie Mariem from Hello Beautiful has created a wonderful award called the Hello Beautiful Blogger award which rather than awarding the blog, awards the blogger for being a beautiful person not just on the outside, but on the inside as well.

Now of coarse there are a few rules, but nothing complicated.

  1. When you receive this award, link it back to the person who nominated you.
  2. Nominate and link as many bloggers as you would like!
  3. The link to JessieMariem.blogspot.com must remain on the award.
  4. Tell the bloggers who you nominate, so they can have a chance and nominate others
First off, I would like to thank Jessie for being a wonderful, inspiring blogger who is a perfect example of who should be given this award. Therefore, it is such a great honor to receive it directly from the creator herself.

Now on to the nominations!

Congratulations to those of you who I have nominated! You are all beautiful inside and out and each and every one of you deserve this award for having great personalities and being some of the most kind and generous bloggers that I have had the privilege of getting to know.

Once again, Congratulations to those I have nominated!

Makeup Review: Hard Candy Just Face It Foundation

As you all know, I am a serious sucker for anything that claims to multitask, especially this whole 4-in-1 deal thanks to the Stila One Step that I had a little love affair with a while back. However, the Stila One Step had a quite large price tag attached and has now been replaced with the Perfect & Correct formulation, so getting my hands on it can be a little challenging to say the least. So at last, I found myself walking through the isles of Wally-world (Walmart) looking for a dupe to my high end purchase, and, what do you know? I walked right past this foundation and then took a few steps back and heard angels singing, well at least I could have sworn they were!

Hard Candy Just Face It
Foundation in Fair

After snatching one of them up from the "fair" slot I realized that it was actually filled with the medium shades so going through all of the slots I found no "fair", but I was determined to get this product. Then I pretty much went all mad woman and searched every Walmart within a reasonable distance from my house and finally found it in "fair". But I couldn't help but notice that when I saw all of the shades lined up, they were all pretty much the same color with just a tinge more color to each one and was a bit worried about the color not matching my very pale skin and red undertones, but I decided it would work and back home I went.

When I got home this product was no different then any other product I get and I immediate took the cap off and squeezed one pump onto the back of my hand to swatch. Needless to say I was VERY worried that it would make me look yellow and a few shades darker.

Besides the color differentiation, the texture and finish were also kind of a hit-or-miss due to the heavy gel/liquid texture and very matte finish, as in I would have no choice but to wear some sort of highlighter over this due to how flat it looks on the skin. Nevertheless, I am a persistent person and it takes a lot for me to give up, so I tried to make it work, and tried, and tried, and tried.

Eventually, after trial and mostly errors I found out that it is extremely important to use a very small amount of product because the very first time I wore this foundation I looked and felt like I was wearing a cakey mask of foundation no matter what I did, needless to say I have never again used a whole single pump of this foundation. Then, I had a great idea of stippling it on, which just resulted in an even worse cakey mask with weird bumps on my skin due to the very heavy texture even though I tried stippling with a dry brush and a wet brush, it just did not go well for me (so be forewarned, NEVER try to stipple this foundation!).

When I was about to just give up on this foundation (which I just about never, ever give up on any product),  I tried one last time to buff it on instead of stippling or painting it on and I finally got a much more natural finish instead of feeling like I was wearing a cakey mask while still getting seriously great coverage from it. However, I still feel like at times it leaves me a little cakey or powdery looking in my dry areas every once in a while due to it being a 4-in-1 that dries to a powder finish. I have also noticed that without an additional primer this product will sink into my pores on a hot summer day, so the priming part of this foundation is not a success for me either.

It is safe to say that I will likely not repurchase this foundation and probably end up giving to a friend or just plain throwing it away after it starts to get old since I never need a lot of it, but I have to take special care and extra time while putting it on to make sure it won't look cakey or yellow-y.

The Stats:
 - Very Yellowy Undertones
 - Limited Shade Range (6 shades, light to deep tan)
 - Just $7.00 compared to $44.00 for Stila One Step
 - Thick Gel-Like Liquid Consistency
 - Cakes-up very easily
 - Buildable
 - Sinks into pores (Note: Use an extra primer!)
 - Hard to blend
 - Full Coverage

August Favorites

Hey everyone! Sorry for skipping a day, school has become a big hassle, but as always, it is time again to share my favorites of this month!

Makeup Favorites

I have to admit, I have been having a secret love affair with the blush in this e.l.f Studio Blush and Bronzer Contouring Kit (don't tell my Covergirl Classic Color Blush in 540 Rose Silk, I think he will get a little jealous). This peachy-pink blush is my perfect, go-to blush for every day looks, it just seems to liven up my complexion thanks to the slight shimmer. Plus, this little baby only set me back $3.00, which is a huge plus for when I (eventually, a two or three taps is enough!) hit pan.

Going back in school, I have again come to love my Naked palette for the simplicity of having everything in one place, including my three favorite eyeshadows (Virgin, Naked and Buck) to create my classic nearly naked eyeshadow look everyday. What else can I say? Simple, easy, quick, and perfectly neutral for school!

Nail Favorites

This month I have been really loving bright pinks like O.P.I's Elephantastic Pink and as always, paired with my O.P.I Silver Shatter on the ring finger. I am not sure what it is about this color that just draws me in, but it does! Plus, Silver Shatter just goes with everything, so lets just throw it in the mix for fun, shall we?

Music Favorites

Picture from DJEarworm.com

I have been loving remixes by DJ Earworm lately, they are some of the best mixes I have ever heard! Hop on over to Youtube and look him up, you won't regret it!

Random Favorites

I have been loving my cosmetology class so far, it's fun, but tough at the same time, I will admit it is no walk in the park. However, one plus of it is that with my current schedule I can leave my regular high school after third period, so technically I would have around an hour and a half to get to my vocational school for cosmetology, but seeing as I don't drive, nor have a car to drive if I did, I am stuck at school until my friends are released from their classes and we pile into one of their cars to drive on over.

I hope you all had a wonderful month of August, I know I certainly did!
