Tag: Summer Besties!

Lately this tag has been super popular and everyone from youtube beauty gurus to beauty bloggers are picking out their favorite summer products. Well I guess I am no different, I have some tried and true summer products that I keep going back to time and time again (with a few new additions this year), so here is a sneak peek into my beach bag! (NOTE: Sorry I have had few and far between posts lately, I am on vacation now and it has been very hard to find the time to put together posts, so please expect a delay in posting until further notice.)

My favorite summer….

1) Lip product
I am such a sucker for lip products, but a sticky gloss and heavy lipstick are not very beach worthy so I prefer a balm or salve in my bag instead. My Choice: C.O. Bigelow Apple Rose Salve (This product multitaskes as a cuticle cream, lip balm or cream balm to use on dry skin)

2) Blush
Every single time anyone asks what my favorite blush is whether it is fall, winter, spring, or summer I always say Covergirl Classic Color Blush in 540 Rose Silk. This blush is the perfect peachy/pink with just the right amount of shimmer in it so you never look flat or as reflective as a disco ball. (Check-out my 1 Tip For A Radiant Complexion)

3) Nail Polish
It is no secret that I love bright, punchy colors during the summer and O.P.I's Cajun Shrimp Nail Laquer is just the right balance between red and orange for my fair skin.

4) Liquid face product
During the summer months (if I am lucky) I get a light tan and my skin generally clears up so I like to use a buildable, natural finish foundation with sunscreen like the Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Foundation.

Picture from www.bizrate.com

5) Powder face product
To keep me looking natural and shine-free I like to dust on a little Covergirl Oil Control Clean Pressed Powder.

Picture from www.covergirl.com

6) Hair product
During the summer I ador soft, shiny, manageable hair, however that isn't the case with my hair at times so I rely on a leave-in condition and detangler like the Regis Designline Ultimate Radiance Leave-in Conditioning Styler.

7) Eye product
I love all my eye products so it was super hard to just pick one product, but since my lashes are naturally full and black, mascara isn't so neccessary so I chose my all-time favorite eyeliner, Stila Stay All-Day Liquid Eyeliner which really does stay all day long whether I am swimming in a pool, crying during a chick-flick or even walking by the ocean shore.

8) Self Tanner (or any tanning item)
I am very fair skinned so naturally I love the look of tanned skin in the summer, but I always burn in the sun and self-tanning lotions, creams and sprays always end up giving me an orangey tint-- the only solution? Sunscreen! and lots of it, but to make application less of a hassle I like spray-on sun screens like the Coppertone SPORT Continuous Spray SPF 30 Sunscreen.

Picture from www.drugstore.com

9) Fashion Accessory
During the summer sunglasses are always a must-have but most people chose that so I am going to shake it up a little bit and put down anything girly and beachy-inspired from layered necklaces to opal earrings and even a chucky, big watch in a bright color to play off of the menswear trend without having to sacrifice cuteness.

10) Clothing piece
I am sure again that most would say a swimsuit, but I think a cute, classy sundress (no funky Hawaiian florals please!) is just a piece every girl should have. (try looking for a classic shape that has an unexpected flare to it like the dress below from the Forever21+ line)

From far away this dress looks simple in
navy with white polka dots and a classic
cut.

When you get closer you see that the white
polka dots are not really polka dots, but
white kitty prints.

I hope you enjoyed the tag!

Tools Review: Sigma Travel Kit Naughty in Black

Since I have received my Sigma Travel Kit (click here to read my Sigma Experience post *this post was delayed for quite a bit as I tried to get other posts out, but I have had the brushes for a while before this post was published) I have been using the brushes practically everyday and I can not get enough of them!

Sigma Travel Kit in Naughty in Black

After using these brushes for quite some time now (it has been about a month since I have recieved them) they have held up extremely well with daily use and weekly cleanings. But before we get too far in detail about the brushes lets start with the luxurious leather case these travel-ready beauties come in.

I have to admit, I am a sucker for packaging, and these high-quality travel-sized brushes come neatly placed in a super soft leather travel brush roll that makes me "ahhhhhh" in wonder. Upon unfolding the roll the very first time I made sure to (silently) thank Sigma Beauty (in my head) for using a magnetic closure to ensure that my beauty goodies inside do not come out without the hassle of ties or a rubberband. When I finally completely unfolded the brush roll I immediately noticed two things that make this brush roll unique and one of the best I have ever seen or used. 1.) It has a small zipper compartment that can be used to stash anything from your blush compact and favorite lip gloss to the bonus Duo Fibre - F50 brush that Sigma is nice enough to also include with this awsome kit. 2.) There is a fold-over flap to ensure that none of the brushes will slip-out of the case and get ruined in your purse (or gym bag or book bag or suitcase or... I think you get the point).

Left to Right: Large Powder - F30, Large Angled Contour - F40, Foundation - F60, Eye Shading - E55, Pencil - E30, Tapered Blending - E40, and Concealer - F70

Now we can get on to the part you (and me to!) have been waiting for,
BRUSH REVIEW TIME!

Starting with the first brush in this kit, the Large Powder - F30, I thought this kit was just going to be average. This brush is made up of quality natural bristles, but I feel the bristles could be a bit softer. However, what it lacks in softness it makes up in density because this brush is crazy dense, almost resembling a kabuki brush, but this is more of a paddle brush than a round kabuki (if you are looking for a kabuki brush try the Buffer - F45). This brush is great for applying a variety of powders like pressed powder foundation, loose powders like BareMinerals Mineral Veil and even all-over bronzer is super easy to apply with this brush. Only downside to this brush is that it does shed quite a bit initially (probably 9 bristles came out when just stroking the brush when I got it out of the brush gaurd), but after the initial shedding I have not seen it shed a single fiber.

Moving on to the second brush in the line-up, the Large Angled Contour - F40, my thoughts on the kit were dramatically different. Again, this brush is made up of natural bristles, however the bristles seem softer than the bristles on the Large Powder - F30 brush. In my experience, this brush is best used with powder products for contouring with bronzer or applying blush to the apples of the cheeks and even for applying highligh shades to the tops of cheeks. Unlike the Large Powder - F30 this brush has not shed at all which was very pleasantly surprising.

The third face brush in the set, the Foundation - F60, is also a crowd pleaser in my eyes. I must admit that upon laying my eyes on it I thought that this brush was not anything different than any other flat foundation brush, but boy was I wrong! This brush is super versatile and can be used in a variety of ways for many different products. I like to use this synthetic bristled brush to apply cream, liquid and mousse products like foundation, concealer (when I need to conceal a large area) and cream/liquid/gel/mousse blushes (and sometimes if I need to pack some serious color on my cheeks I pat some powder blush on my apples of my cheeks with this brush to give a little more punch to a look). This brush also does well in the shedding department, not a single bristel has been shed!

The fourth and final face brush included with the kit (which is actually NOT included as a part of the kit, but is packaged with the kit as a free gift although anyone / everyone who orders the kit will receive this brush as well; checkout my Sigma Experience for more info on it) is the Duo Fibre - F50 (NOTE: This brush is not in the pictures of the brushes in the case, there is no designated brush holder in the case for this extra brush). I will start of by saying that I have always wanted a duo fiber brush, so it was pretty much love at first sight with this brush. For those of you not familiar with the term "duo fibre" it refers to just that, a brush with two kinds of fibers, natural and synthetic, to create an airbrushed look. There are two different ways to use a duo fibre brush, "stippling", which is basically touching the brush to the skin and lifting it off quickly whithout actually moving the bristles across the skin, and "buffing", where the brush touches the skin and is continously moved in a circular motion across the skin without being lifted off. I love this brush for both of those purposes and either way it gives me a flawless finish. Just one drawback to this brush is that when using either of the methods listed above with a thick cream/liquid/mousse/gel foundation tends to produce a slightly cakey finish which I am, and I am sure all of you are, not fond of. One other thing about this brush that I do not like so much is that every once in a while I find a random little hair in my makeup from the brush. However, this brush is so versatile that I don't mind the small amount of shedding every now and then considering if I had to do my makeup with just one brush, I would choose this one since is can use it for everything from foundation to setting powder and blush (and even when I do not use this brush to apply my foundation I at least use it along my hairline and jaw too make sure my foundation is blended and matches the skin on my neck and chest).

Starting off with the most basic of eyebrushes in the line-up, the Eye Shading - E55 is just the brush for benginners and well advanced makeup mavens alike. The natural bristles on this essential brush pick up just enough shadow and applies it with minimum fall-out and zero bristles end up on your lid. The bristles on this brush are also super soft, but still firm enough to be able to swipe, pat and pack on color to your lid, lowerlishline, browbone and even your crease and outer-v. If I only had one brush to do an eye look with, this would be the brush I pick up every single time.

The second eye brush featured in this kit is the truely essential Pencil - E30. The natural bristles on this brush are shaped to a perfect point that is perfect for an array of things such as smudging shadow and liner on the upper and lower lashlines and placing color in the crease and outer-v. This is truely one detailing brush everyone should own!

To blend-out that color placed in the crease and outer-v try this Tapered Blending - E40.  These never-scratchy natural bristles perfectly blend and apply crease colors like a dream thanks to the large, rounded shape. No shedding has been detected even during and after cleanings when shedding is most probable.

The last, but certainly not the least brush in the kit is the Concealer - F70. The synthetic bristles and flat, but ever-so tiny shape of this brush makes it perfect for concealing dark circles, breakouts, and scarring or hyperpigmentation. However, this brush is also great for applying eye primers, powder and cream eyeshadow and even lipstick flawlessly. When in doubt, take this brush with you in your purse, it can multitask and be used for just about anything.

The Stats:
 - High Quality Brushes
 - High Quality Brush Roll
 - Some light shedding from the face brushes
 - Many of the brushes can be easily used for other purposes (multitasking!)
 - Most of the brushes are natural fibers with the exception of the duo fibre, concealer, and foundation brush
 - Withstand daily use and weekly cleanings very well
 - The brush guards on the large face brushes are very handy when traveling
 - Short, but still nice sized travel handles
 - All of the brushes are very soft, but some are softer than others
 - Great beginner kit, but also good for keeping in purses, gym-bags and carry-ons.

 Wow! That was quite long!

Makeup Review: L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes

Many of you may know how much I absolutely love my Buxom Lash Mascara, but for me it is a splurge item so after 3  months I throw it out and go back on my quest to find a cheaper alternative. This time I think I may have found a sutable alternative for just $8.00 rather than the $18.00 I shell out for the buxom lash.

L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes is exactly almost the replacement I have been looking for. This mascara gives me very comparable results to the Buxom. Although, I do have to wear two coats of this to get the dramatic fullness that I like and this mascara does not layer as easily as the Buxom and has tendency to pull out a few lashes every so often when I layer.

This mascara also claims to have a no clumping formula that I tend to disagree with because I do get lashes that stick together and small clumps at the ends of my lashes every so often. However, I think this is just because of the very "wet" formula and after a month and a half it will start to dry out some so it is more workable with less drying time. L'Oreal also claims that this mascara brush is "uniquely designed to amplify and separate lashes from corner to corner while building breath taking volume." and parts of this statement I agree with like the volume and amplification of lashes. Other parts like separation (it clumps a small bit, not bad, but I hate having to go back and use a lash comb) and uniquely designed brush (it really does not look all that unique compared to the Buxom's patented hour-glass brush and the brush is very short in comparison as well).

In the long run I do actually like this mascara as I am very picky about them, but I do not think I will be repurchasing often because some other downfalls of the mascara include some flaking and the most horrible smell ever (I have to make sure to keep the tube far away from my nose when use it), however it still gives me lashes without the price, just with a few sacrifices made in the wear category.

The Stats:
 - Some Flaking
 - Not Easily Layered
 - Adds Volume
 - Gives good curl without an eyelash curler
 - Separates and Defines Lashes
 - Small amount of clumping
 - Brush allows easy access to inner and outer lashes
 - Plastic Bristles
 - "Wet" Formula
 - The smell of this mascara is terrible x10!

Have you tried this mascara? How was your experience with it?

Feelin' A Lil Blue

Recently I have been loving bright, poppy blues, this all started quite a while ago with one of my very first O.P.I polishes called Ogre The Top Blue which has really made me quite obsessed with the color!

I have just been feeling more calm every time I look at something blue and Ogre The Top Blue is just what I need when ever taking finals and big tests. However, I still find it calming during the summer months and it sort-of reminds me of blue pool water, just intensified. Also I recently picked up a watch from a Lane Bryant outlet store in a similar bright blue because I love statement pieces of jewelry and this oversized watch with rhinestones around the clock definitely makes for a statement piece.

My First Sigma Experience with the Travel Kit in Naughty In Black

Hey everyone! As many of you know, I have recently become a Sigma Beauty Affiliate and I thought it was only fair if I give you all my honest opinion of the company and what better way to do that than a review of my very first Sigma experience.

When I first received my Sigma package I was very impressed by how well the products inside were protected by a sturdy, heavy, white cardboard box which tells me that they do care about the condition of the products before, during and after the shipping process. As well, it didn't hurt that once I opened the plain cardboard box I caught a glimpse of the packaged products in a cute purple mesh bag that can be reused for just about anything.

After I opened up the purple mesh bag I was surprised to see more than just the Travel Kit. Sigma was generous  enough to include a free travel sized Duo Fiber - F50 brush packaged in its own mini mesh bag. I loved that they did this because it allows me to be able to switch it out with any other brush in the set if I prefer to use a set of brushes on certain days or on certain trips I take.

As well, Sigma also included a guide that had pictures and descriptions of the various brushes included with the kit and possible uses for the brushes. I found this extremely useful and it seems great for girls out there who are new to make up brushes and are not exactly sure what each brush is used for.

Sigma even included a card that has cleaning and maintenance instructions on it which is again, very helpful and seems great for girls who have not owned makeup brushes before.

My experience so far with Sigma was great and Sigma has really impressed me with how much they care about their customers and their products. It is safe to say I can't wait to order something from their website in the near future since I have been really eyeing the Synthetic Face Kit, the Face and Eyes Kit and the new Bare Palette which is part of a collection of three eyeshadow palettes that they have just released and I am dying to try it out!

P.S.- I will be reviewing the brushes in a few weeks and then a giveaway may be in the works

Have you tried Sigma brushes or their new palettes?
If you have I would love to hear your experience in the Comments!

June Favorites

Beauty Favorites
This month I have been really loving makeup products and I have been really focused on expanding my makeup collection so of corse that results in a few new foundations, mascaras and brushes.

My first new favorite I am using is the L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara. It is very popular among youtube beauty gurus and beauty bloggers so I decided to jump on the bandwagon this month with this mascara. It is a really good mascara that is pretty comparable to my long beloved Buxom, but it does have some drawbacks that definitely draw me away from the product, but nevertheless, I have been baring the cons of it and have come to like it. (I will be doing a review soon!)

My next beauty favorite this month has been my Stila One Step Makeup Foundation. This foundation has been perfect this month for my super busy schedule that has not been allowing me as much time to get ready as I would like. It is super easy to apply and and in one step I have primer, foundation, concealer, and powder on and this saves me loads of time when I need to be ready to leave the house in 5 minutes.

I have also been loving my Covergirl Classic Color Blush in 540 Rose Silk (as seen in my 1 Tip For A Radient Complexion). This color is the perfect peachy pink color for summer when it is worn on the cheeks and the the slight shimmer makes this blush look almost supernatural. Plus, you can use this color to add a little bit of radiance to your complexion.
Accessory & Clothing Favorites

As I said in my AOTD: Going Gaga Over Gold, I have been absolutely crazy about pale pinks and gold accents during June! I have never been one to like gold, but the more gold pieces I obtain the more I love it!
TV Favorites

I must say, I have been absolutely loving Pretty Little Liars. This show contains two things that I love in any show, mystery and girlyness. I can not wait for the next episode because this season is already full of suspense and tons of drama!

What were some of your favorites in June?
