Top 5 Must-Haves of 2011

Hey everyone! I thought I would round-up this week with a fun post about my top 5 must-have products of the year. All of these products are hand-chosen by me (in no particular order) and are products that I actually use often and consider many of them my favorites. So lets get on to the amazing products, shall we?

This palette seems to be known as one of the biggest hits in the beauty community and everyone from the girl who barely wears much makeup to the girl who rocks a smokey eye 24/7 have fallen in love with this palette! It has one of the best neutral color palettes I have seen, containing everything from that "my eyelids, but better" shade to that shimmering sunset gold, to the deepest black that sparkles and shines on a night out. I believe that it is one of the most versatile palettes and ever since I laid eyes on it I just knew it would end up in a post like this!

New York Color cosmetics are one of my favorite drugstore beauty brands because they just seem to know how to combine insanely low prices with top-quality products worthy of a much higher price tag. This particular bronzer makes the list because of its smooth powder formula that is easy to blend while still giving me that naturally bronzed color that any paler pretty desires.

After discovering this shade in the Urban Decay Naked Palette, I just had to get my hands on this shadow single because it truly multitasks and can fit into almost every eye look. I find that it is great as an all-over shadow base, lid color, crease color, brow color, and can also just be added slightly above the crease to help blend your shadows up to the highlight without adding any shimmer. Needless to say, I love this eyeshadow!

After picking these up at Walmart in a haul forever ago, I have been in love with them and finally stopped wasting my money buying makeup wipes that don't work or just don't hold up while trying to scrub my makeup off. Plus, the cucumber scent is refreshing and makes me feel as if I am at an expensive spa getting a facial, cucumber slices on the eyes included.

Finding this by chance at a trade show at the Crown Brush booth saved me from mornings spent getting up early to perfect my foundation. Thanks to this brush my foundation looks perfectly airbrushed in no time, so no more dabbing and blending with fingers or a regular foundation brush and then blending even more for another 5 minutes until I felt it was finally blended enough, just buff with this brush and I am done!

What are your top 5 must-haves of 2011?

Skincare Review: Montagne Jeunesse Cucumber Peel-Off Mask

Hey everyone! Guess what? New Years Eve is just a few days away, so you know what that means? Time to get your skin into tip-top condition for the coming celebration and face the new year with healthy, glowing skin! Thanks to Influenster I received a trial size packet of this cucumber peel-off mask to try out, and with the holidays coming up there couldn't be a better time to test it out!

Trial Size Montagne Jeunesse Cucumber Peel-Off Mask

Twas' the night before Christmas and all through the house, everyone was sleeping, everyone but me! Inside my bathroom I was squeezing just a bit of this liquid gel onto fingers at a time and applying to my face. Fortunately I didn't make much of a mess, but if I hadn't read reviews before hand warning about the liquid-gel texture I would have!

After applying it I laid down with a book and read for about 20 minutes to let the mask set. When I got up to check what the mask looked like on I almost had a heart-attack! The clearish green gel had set to a shiny, clear finish atop my skin that slightly made me look like a cereal killer wearing one of the shiny plastic masks. I was so freaked out by myself I just wanted it off of my face right then and there! I started peeling at the side of my face and just kept peeling and pulling more of the mask off little by little and was left with incredibly smooth skin. However, it did leave me feeling a little dry, so I made sure to apply moisturizer that night and the following day.

I am quite satisfied with this mask even though it dried out my skin a little, but I think it probably wouldn't during the summer months, so keep that in mind next time you spot a few of these packets in your local ulta or drugstore.

The Stats:
 - Cucumber Scent
 - A bit drying
 - Completely removes impurities from the skin
 - Leaves skin smooth and soft
 - Easy Peel-off
 - Non-Irritating
 - Very thin gel consistency makes application a bit of a struggle
 - Great as a weekly pampering mask
 - No Animal Testing
 - Full-size, single use packets retail around $1.50 each (there is a special 4 for 3 going on at so go check it out!)
 - Available at Ulta and local drugstores
 - 7 Different varieties of facial masks available in an array of scents

Skincare Review: XOut Wash-In Treatment

For the past couple of weeks I have been trying out a completely revolutionary approach to skincare called the XOut Wash-In Treatment by the makers of Proactive. This changes everything you are used to in a skincare regimen, instead of using a cleanser, toner, treatment and moisturizer, this product does all the work within just one step and can even be used in 3 different ways.

30-day supply (2.5 oz.) of XOut Wash-In Treatment

I received this product courtesy of Influenster (featured bonus product in the 2011 Holiday VoxBox) and now that I have it, I am so insanely confused as to why I had never tried it before! This is a relatively new product though, so I didn't have much time to hear anything about it, but with something so revolutionary on the market, word travels fast!

Since this is such a new approach to skincare, I must admit that I was a bit skeptical, I mean a product that cleanses my skin while toning and lightly moisturizing in one simple step? Surely it must not live up to expectations! But when I pumped out this creamy white product into my hands and applied to my dampened skin I realized it was no bluff!

This thick formula contains tiny exfoliating beads that gently remove dead skin cells to help the 8.5% benzoyl peroxide dive deep down into pores to increase its effectiveness, which I particularly enjoy. Plus, as you move this product around your face in circular motions (or however you wash your face!) for the recommended 2 minutes twice a day, it gives you a cool, tingly sensation that revives your senses and wakes up your skin.

After you are done cleansing you also have the option of using this product as a spot-treatment or applying as a mask all-over for extra-deep acne-busting treatment. Personally I like to apply this as a spot-treatment when I get those pesky hormonal break-outs that just seem to never go away, but after using this on them at night, I wake up to smaller breakouts and overall clearer skin. However, there is just one drawback for people with dry skin, using this as a spot-treatment on the same breakout more than once can cause the skin around the breakout to become a little dried out and flaky, so I recommend using a gentle moisturizer around the area.

Overall I really love this product! It has helped reduce my acne (unfortunately not all of it, but it has definitely helped control it) and treat it while not being too abrasive on my skin, which is exactly what I (and I am sure many of you) have been looking for!

The Stats:
- Contains 8.5% Benzoyl Peroxide
- Simple, just one-step
- Cool, tingly feeling
- Quick and easy to use
- Retails for just $19.95 for a 30-day supply (2.5 oz.) or $39.95 for a 60-day supply (7.0 oz.) at
- 60-Day Money-Back Guarantee
- Multitasking (replaces cleanser, toner, treatment and moisturizer)
- Sanitary Air-Pump
- Three ways to use: Wash, Spot-Treatment, or Mask

NOTD: O.P.I Manicurist of Seville and Spark de Triomphe

Since the holidays are literally just a day away, I thought a few late-comers would enjoy another holiday nail of the day in case they hadn't already chosen their nail wardrobe for the festive day.

O.P.I Manicurist of Seville as base color with O.P.I Spark
de Triomphe on top and sealed with O.P.I Top Coat

Be prepared to sparkle and shine this season with this shiny nail look! To achieve this festive and fun look, just add a coat of your favorite red nail polish and pile on the glitter! I left my ring finger without any glitter since I usually do it the other way around, always using glitter, shatter or some type of nail art on that finger, I decided to just keep it simple. Plus, leaving one finger without the glitter somehow seems to tone it down a bit and give everyone a real peek at the color underneath it all!

Happy Holidays!

NOTD: O.P.I Jade Is The New Black Holiday Nails

Hey everyone! With the holidays just around the corner, I thought I would show you a festive nail combination that is sure to get notice at any upcoming holiday events!

O.P.I Jade Is The New Black with O.P.I Red
Shatter on the ring finger and O.P.I Silver
Shatter on the thumb with O.P.I Topcoat

This festive combo of classic red and green with a twist of silver can almost be done in any way, switch off with red and silver shatter on every other nail to get a truly festive look or keep it minimal like I did, or you can even try layering the silver and red shatter. There are infinitely many possibilities with this combination, so don' t be afraid to make it a little more unique!

Happy Holidays!

Makeup Review: NYC/New York Color Liquid Lipshine

Hello fellow gloss lovers! Just recently I received a New York Color Liquid Lipshine (courtesy of Influenster, featured in the 2011 Holiday VoxBox) and I can honestly say, it has been love at first gloss, but if you have been reading my blog for a while you probably already know my favorite drugstore brand is NYC cosmetics, so it should be no surprise that I am extremely excited to review this product! (NYC Smooth Skin Pressed Bronzing Powder Review and NYC Smooth Skin Liquid Foundation Review)

New York Color Liquid Lipshine in
Nude York City 582

Upon opening up this sleek tube of gloss the light scent of vanilla wafted up to my nose, but it was not as strong, overpowering, or synthetic as most lower-end glosses tend to be (I am talking to you, Wet n' Wild Mega Slicks Lipgloss). Which is a great plus for girlies with sensitive noses, the scent ends with the tube and once it is applied you can no-longer smell it.

Scents aside, I realized that the applicator on this gloss is quite different than any of the others I have encountered. It isn't a brush, paddle, or doe-foot, but seems more like a mixture of a paddle shape and the texture of a typical doe-foot. However, the applicator does seem to have a slight groove in it to help enhance the ease of application, which I do very much appreciate. Although, I must admit that it took me a while to really practice how exactly to use the applicator without looking completely awkward apply gloss to my upper-lip.

On the bright side, I find that the slick and smooth medium thickness of the gloss is definetly worth the fight. NYC seem to have this formula down to a perfect science, high shine with fine shimmer and a slick feel with just the right amount of stickyness to keep the gloss attatched to my lippies for a full 4 hours without eating or drinking! A major feat for any gloss seems ordinary for this one. Plus, this silky lipshine won't break the bank at just around $2.50 each you can buy all 10 shades for $25.00! Now that is certainly a deal compared to just 2 M.A.C Lipglasses at $14.00 each for a total of $28.00. You decide, 10 high-quality lipshines worthy of an expensive price tag or just 2 high-end lipglasses with the expensive price tag?

The Stats:
 - Light vanilla scent
 - No flavor
 - 0.24 fluid ounces
 - Nude York City (582) is a sheer pinky nude with silver shimmer (Check-out for more color options!)
 - Unique fuzzy paddle applicator
 - Formula is smooth with a medium thickness
 - High shine gloss
 - Perfect slight stickyness while still feeling slick
 - Lasts up to 4 hours without eating or drinking
 - Retail for about $2.50 each

Makeup Review: Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV

One of Urban Decay's latest palette launches, the Book of Shadows IV, certainly exhibits the best of both worlds for the classically chic and the whimsical wild sides of every girl's personality.

Upon opening up the top lid of this palette you are greeted with a flurry of butterflies, a peek at the speaker in the drawer below, a Get The Look QR code card, a cell phone holder to follow along and a mirror image of yourself looking back. It's a lot to take in at once and dare I even say it, breath-taking!

But being honest here, opening the pull drawer underneath is even more of a sight to see! The drawer completely pulls out to reveal all of its expertly coordinated products floating within a textured purple abyss.

First Row left to right: Blue Bus, Gunmetal, Cobra and Baked
Second Row Left to Right: Bender, Gravity, Lost and Hijack
Third Row Left to Right: Midnight Cowgirl, Sin, Midnight
Rodeo and Crystal
Fourth Row Left to Right: Bust, Missionary, Skimp and
Each and every product contained are in perfect harmony with each other to create various looks, leaving this palette one of the most versatile Urban Decay has released. You truly can have it all with this palette, from a wild purple cat eye to an everyday, easy neutral eye. Plus, the How-To Videos can give you some direction if you are one of those of you who are not quite sure what to do with all these possibilities! Then let your creativity shine!

Starting off with the shadows, I like to classify Urban Decay shadows into four separate categories of finishes known as matte, satin, shimmer and sparkle.

 - Matte: No shimmer or glitter, just plain color
 - Satin: sort of a "shiny" finish without noticeable specks of shimmer or glitter
 - Shimmer: Small, but noticeable flecks of glitter
 - Sparkle: Large, very obvious and noticeable flecks of glitter

First row left to right: Blue Bus, Gunmetal, Cobra and Baked
Second Row Left to Right: Bender, Gravity, Lost and Hijack

First row left to right: Blue Bus, Gunmetal, Cobra and Baked

 - Blue Bus is a medium-sheer, satin, periwinkle blue color great for use on the lid.
 - Gunmetal is an opaque, cool toned grey with silver sparkle shadow (read: large chunks of glitter in it which tend to make the eyeshadow rougher-feeling than it should be) that is great for smoky eyes and can be used in the crease and outer-corner to deepen a color.
 - Cobra is a medium opacity, warm, blackened green with gold sparkles that would be great for a green smokey eye or for use in the crease and outer corner.

 - Baked is a medium-opacity, shimmery golden color which is great as a lid color or as a highlight/inner-corner color for smokey brown looks.

Second Row Left to Right: Bender, Gravity, Lost and Hijack

 - Bender is an opaque, moss green with silver sparkles, perfect as a lid color for fun, colorful looks or for a colored smokey eye when paired with Cobra.
 - Gravity is a medium opacity pinked-purple with silver sparkles that would be great to be used in a whimsical, purple cat eye.
 - Lost is an opaque shimmery bronzed brown shade that looks great as a crease and outer corner color.
 - Hijack is a medium-opaque blue-teal with blue sparkles which can be used as a great accent color in a colorful eye look.

Third Row Left to Right: Midnight Cowgirl, Sin, Midnight
Rodeo and Crystal
Fourth Row Left to Right: Bust, Missionary, Skimp andZephyr

Third Row Left to Right: Midnight Cowgirl, Sin, Midnight
Rodeo and Crystal

 - Midnight Cowgirl is a sheer-medium champagne-yellow with gold sparkles that is good as a lid color, highlight color or inner-corner color.
 - Sin is a sheer-medium satin, pinky champagne in color and is great as well for highlighting, inner-corner, and as an all-over lid color. (try this shadow overtop of the sin eyeshadow primer potion to make it really stand out)
 - Midnight Rodeo is an opaque, pink-taupe with silver sparkles that is especially good as a lid color.
 - Crystal is a sheer, pale blue with blue shimmer that looks great paired with Hijack.

Fourth Row Left to Right: Bust, Missionary, Skimp and Zephyr

 - Bust is a medium opacity, satin taupey-brown that is just right for use in the crease and outer corner of a neutral eye look.
 - Missionary is a medium-sheer pink taupe satin that provides the perfect finish when used across the lid and as a highlight to smokier looks.
 - Skimp is a medium-sheer satin peach color that is great for all-over the lid.
 - Zephyr is a sheer off-white satin that is perfect for highlighting the browbone and inner-corner.

Regardless of color and texture, all of these shadows pack a great punch and can easily get you from day-to-night in the blink of an eye! Plus, the extras included in the palette pack a special punch of their own!

Left to Right: 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Liner in Perversion,
Supercurl Curling Mascara and Original Eyeshadow Primer

Included in the palette is a full-sized 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion so you can rock a fade-proof, smudge-proof cat eye anytime. I love that you can easily create a thin line or a dramatic thick line with just a flick of the brush and the line stays all day until you want to take it off at night. However, if you have longer eyelashes, beware that it is easy for the plastic part holding the brush to bump into your lashes and coat them with the liner making your lashes clump when applying mascara.

Also included is a mini Supercurl Curling Mascara with a bent wand that easily coats even the hardest-to-reach lashes with this *super* curling mascara. I can not say enough good things about this mascara, it coats every lash while separating and curling so there is no need for an eyelash curler or a lash comb.

Plus, a mini Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion is included in the palette as well, which I was super excited to see as I love Primer Potion and was running out of it when I received this palette just in the nik of time.

And just when you think the extras stop, Urban Decay just keeps it coming with an adorable mini speaker with two varieties of connector cords to hook up to your smart phone, iPod or other device with an AUX outlet or USB port.

Overall you couldn't ask for anything more in a palette! Both neutrals and crazy colors plus a full-sized liquid eyeliner, mini mascara, mini primer potion and a portable speaker all wrapped up into one palette that is perfect to keep for yourself or for gift-giving this holiday season.

The Stats:
 - Great range of colors
 - Eyeshadows glide on smoothly
 - Fall-out varies by shadow color and texture (darker/sparkle shadows)
 - 16-0.03 US oz.eyeshadows
 - A full-sized Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion
 - One mini 0.18 US fl. oz. Supercurl Curling Mascara
 - One mini 0.13 fl. oz. Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original
 - One speaker with 2 connector cords (USB to AUX and AUX to AUX)
 - A Get The Look QR code card
 - Great Value at $64.00 for all of it!
 - More Product Pictures and Swatches

Why I Decided To Become A Blogger

Hey everyone! I just recently took the time to look through some past posts of some of my favorite bloggers and found a post on Beth's blog, All Things Beautiful, answering this exact question. Hearing how she decided to be become a blogger inspired me share my story with all of you too!

Since I was in the fifth grade I started wearing makeup. Not like high-end foundation, mascara and eyeliner, but just cheap drugstore products my oldest sister had given me since I was always playing in her makeup. That combined with my tiny stash of Claire's lipgloss and eyeshadow palettes started off my love of makeup that launched me into the totally makeup obsessed girl that I am today. After experimenting a lot with my cheap palettes, clear mascara and glittery pink lipgloss, I began a search on google for makeup tips and tricks which lead me to the ever-popular Youtube. From there I discovered Michelle Phan, Elle and Blair Fowler, Tiffany D and so many other popular beauty gurus. After taking in all of their tips, tricks and information about products I went to work practicing my makeup, mastering the natural look and coving up those dreaded tween/teen breakouts all throughout the sixth and seventh grade. That's when I decided that makeup was a real passion of mine and was something that interested me, so I decided that day that my dream in life from there on is to become a professional makeup artist someday.

Well, by the time my freshman year of high school rolled around I realized that I may have something valuable to contribute to the Youtube beauty community, but was far too afraid to make videos. It took me quite a while, but by the end of my sophomore year I found an outlet, Blogging! It hit me square in the face, why hadn't I ever thought of it before? Then I quickly got to work creating the blog you read today and I must say.... I did alright! I thought I might have something valuable to say and all of you reading this is proof that it is true, I have something to say and all of you are here read it. Which I am very thankful for, because without you guys, I probably would have ended up deleting this blog and not being able to share my thoughts on a product or a simple trick I learned from my personal experience with makeup with all of you guys. Truth be told, this blog is a virtual home away from home! So all of you frequent readers, followers and most of all.... friends, are exactly why I am a blogger. I truly thank you all for encouraging me to continue my writing and making me who I am today.

Hey Everyone! Remember when I showed you those lovely LORAC eyeshadows? Well here is an Eye Of The Day featuring all three from the review!

First I used Negligee all over the lid from lash line to browbone and then put Boudoir on the outer half of the lid and in the crease using a shader brush and tapered blending brush. Then I took an angled liner brush and made a soft, medium-thick line across my lashline with the matte Black.

Then I even took the Black and just placed the shadow along my upper and lower water lines, plus a little bit on the bottom lashline to make my lashes appear thicker towards the outer corner of my eye. Then I just added a coat of Urban Decay's Supercurl Curling Mascara and out the door I went!

This eye look is actually super simple and easy to achieve for slightly more experienced makeup mavens on an everyday basis. However, you can stop at the lid and crease color if you are a beginner or find you do not particularly like the look of liner or just apply liner at night for a truly great day-to-night look in a flash!

What do you think of this combo?

Makeup Review: LORAC Eyeshadow Singles

Even though I love my Urban Decay shadows, I still feel the need to branch out a little bit and try some new brands when the perfect opportunity popped up on Hautelook. A little while ago, Hautelook got in a great variety of LORAC products at a price that made me feel as if I was practically stealing! These lovely shadows (among a few other things) made their way into my cart and through the checkout in no time!

LORAC Eye shadows Left to Right in Black, Negligee and Boudoir

I have to admit, I was kind of expecting these shadows to not be so great. Each of these shadows at retail price are about $19.00, but when I received them in my package from Hautelook I was very disappointed in their individual packaging. It isn't that the packaging is bad, but it felt a little cheap for $19.00 each. The shiny black plastic containers are not the sturdiest by any means and the screw-top tends to not screw on completely right ever since I took them off the first time. So with this in mind, I braced myself for some not-so-great eyeshadows (and felt thankful I didn't pay retail price for them).

Left to right: Black, Negligee and Boudoir

But happily they turned out just as great as my little jaunt before with LORAC eyeshadows (in the past I received a deluxe sample of their eyeshadow in Serenity as a Sephora Beauty Insider 100-point perk and ever since have been wanting to try more). With a gentle stroke of my EcoTools Bamboo Eyeshadow Brush, I loaded it up with Boudoir and swiped it across my lid.It may not have been love at first sight with the packaging issues, but it was certainly love at first application. Each of the shadow colors apply the same way even though Boudoir and Neglegee are frosts while Black is a matte. They all feel super soft and velvety, not at all chalky or gritty. They almost seemed to glide right on! Plus, they are all extremely pigmented and super blendable!

Left to right: Neglige, Boudoir and Black

I really couldn't be any happier with these shadows, however, I could stand it if LORAC would consider redoing their packaging and making it a little more sturdy (*hint, hint LORAC!*).

The Stats:
 - Very Blendable
 - Super Pigmented
 - Smooth, Velvety Texture
 - Cheap Packaging
 - Retails at $19.00 each

November Favorites

Hello beauties! Time for another round up of favorites from the past month!

Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV

In the month of November I have been obsessing over my latest Urban Decay palette, The Book Of Shadows IV. It holds 16 eyeshadows with a great selection of wild colors and neutrals for every occasion. Plus, It includes a ton of extras, so you can literally just take the palette and create whatever look you desire, whether it is fun and whimsical or the classic barely-there neutral. (Full Review Coming Soon!)

Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Foundation

Due to the heat starting to come on and the wind outside being so harsh on the skin, I have been needing a slightly more moisturizing foundation that can conform to my skin and this foundation has been it! It provides just the right amount of coverage that I need without emphasizing my dry patches, which is a win for me in the fight against my combination skin.

Left to Right: Stila Lip Glazes in Fantasy, Kitten, Grapefruit
and Kaleidoscope

Before I received this set as a gift, I had sort-of lost touch with glosses and was pretty much just using balms 24/7, but since I have started using these, I always have one with me and pretty much have one or two shades mixed together on my lips at all times. These glosses are great, just the right combination of slick and sticky, but they don't last as long as I would like, so unfortunately I have to tote them around with me when I am out and about, but for the great color, I am willing to make a little room for them.

Makeup Brushes

Crown Brush Flat Top Synthetic Bronzer Brush

Just a little while ago I discovered Crown Brush at a trade show in Columbus, Ohio and immediately gravitated towards this brush since it seems a lot like the Sigma Sigma Flat Top Kabuki. Since then, I have been using it everyday to apply my foundation and the results I get are truly amazing! I feel like my skin is absolutely, flawlessly airbrushed whenever I use it to apply foundation. Plus, It cuts down the time to apply your foundation in half! I can definitely get used this brush!

Sigma F50 - Duo Fibre

When I first got this brush I strated using it as a foundation brush to see what all the hype was about and quickly realized it was a truely amazing brush! However, my new Crown Brush Synthetic Flat Top has taken its place in the realm of best brush to apply foundation with, so I decided to experiment a little and use this brush to apply my blush. The results were right up to par with my usual EcoTools Bamboo Blush Brush, but now that I have discovered how perfectly this applies blush, I might never go back to it!

Yes To Cucumbers Facial Towelettes
On weekends I tend to skip a shower on Friday night and instead shower Saturday morning, so I need to be able to take my makeup off at night without having to drag out a washcloth, eye makeup remover, cleanser and the bathroom sink. These wipes completely remove all my eye makeup and face makeup without the hassle, which is exactly what the doctor ordered!
